Although psychological is a very theoretical subject, it is essential for teachers to not rely on textbook based learning. Promoting an inquiry based learning is preferred as students can effectively engage with the material whilst developing their own self academic self concept. Teachers should allow students to ask questions whenever to ensure that students completely understand the content. Further understanding is facilitated by presenting students with activities which allows them to play an active role in their learning and have some sense of responsibility. With students being aware that they are in control of their learning, it will get them intrinsically motivated. Students will have a desire to strive for academic excellence in this subject. Inquiry based learning is present in all the activities listed in this curriculum resource which again facilitates students understanding. All of the activities require students to have a comprehensive knowledge of the each of the lobes. Through this activity, teachers can observe and assess student’s knowledge of the content and see areas which need improvement. Further reiteration or explanation may be needed to ensure that students are all on the same page. Teachers should be considerate with student’s pace of learning and work at an efficient speed.
As students are learning predominantly through the usage of questioning. It is important that teachers are patient and understanding when students are having difficulty understand the task. Questioning will also assist teachers with noting areas that needs to be revised or areas of improvement. In order to get students to confidently ask questions or answer them, an optimal classroom condition must be achieved. An optimal classroom condition would be democratic, supportive and encouraging so students feel comfortable and safe to contribute their ideas with the class.
The majority, if not all, activities are open to adjustment so teachers are free to shape the listed activities to support students of varying ability and learning experiences. The activities can be reduced for students who are struggling and can be expanded on for advanced students. There is the option for extension tasks to be set for students who breeze through the course material. The current resource includes examples of such extension activities. It is up to educators to perceive each student’s level of ability and arrange learning exercises correspondingly.
It is important that the teachers are aware of the demographic of their students and modify the task accordingly to them. Classes are always filled with diverse learners so teachers should have pedagogical content knowledge when teaching the class and be able to cater for all individuals.
Although some activities just require students to understand the lobe they are currently studying independently of the others, it is important to be aware that some activities require students to understanding the functioning of all the lobes to make sense of the task. Teachers should change the sequence of the activities in order to make sense of it.
